The ASEAN Tourism Forum 2019 (ATF) and related meetingswasheldat the FLC Convention Center of the FLC Bay Resort in Halong Town, Vietnam, from 14th to 18th January 2019. The Union Minister of Hotels and Tourism U Ohnn Maung lead the Myanmar delegation.
The Minister attended the opening ceremony of ATF 2019 on 16th January, the 22nd ASEAN Tourism Ministers Meeting on 17th January and then on the 18th ASEAN Plus Three Tourism Ministers Meeting and 7th ASEAN-India Tourism Ministers Meeting.
At these meetings, the Minister discussedthe current situation of tourism developmentasit related to ASEAN and partner countries, investment information, and Visa relaxation for China, Japan, South Korea and India. The Minister also took the opportunity to promote our new brand/logo – Myanmar-Be Enchanted and Myanmar’s involvement in regional tourism promotionalevents.
Further discussion took place on the latest updateof the Work Plan as assigned by ASEAN National Tourism Organization and ASEAN Tourism Committee, on the implement of tourism processes as agreed by ASEAN and the establishment of lawsin 2019 for future projects.
The Union Minister also attended the Press Conferences of the Ministers, the ASEAN Tourism Awards and the Closing Ceremony on 18th January 2018.
The Minister was very pleased to be present to witness a number of Myanmar business and services being recognized at the Tourism Awards. Among the winners were the Kyaikthale CBT,in Yangon,which received the ASEAN Community Based Tourism Award and two cities which received awards in the very important area of public toilets, the ASEAN Public Toilet Award, for high standards of Public Toilets. The winners are wherefacilities in Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw. Both these awards recognises the high standard of service and the diversity of product Myanmar is striving to deliver for the visitor. Congratulation to all those Myanmar organisations who entered the awards.
Also, during the Forum, the Minister visited the Myanmar Tourism Booth at Travex in the Quand Ninh Exhibition of Planning and Expo Centre, in Halong. At Travex, the Minister’s discussions ranged from sustainable tourism development, service quality and human resource development, and heard from Myanmar delegates the results of their meetings with counterparts from ASEAN-China Center, ASEAN-Korea Center, United Nations World Tourism Organization, Pacific-Asia Tourism Association and Mekong Tourism Cooperation Office.
On the morning of 19th January 2019, the Union Minister and the delegation visited tourist attractions on Halong Bay and gained an understanding of the experiences available there for visitors atthis beautiful destination.
