Akha Swing Festival

Lekhu Apue (also known as the Akha Swing Festival) is a traditional collective Swing Festival of the Akha people, considered both sacred and important. This festival is celebrated at the end of the planting season and involves rituals to honor the Akha goddess of fertility, with the aim of ensuring a bountiful harvest. During the festival, elders, youth, friends, and families gather at the top of the village to sing traditional songs, dance, and participate in swinging activities, fostering a sense of community and joy. Every year in August, this festival is held in Shan State (East), including Tachileik, Kyaing Tong, and Monghsat, and is celebrated alternately in different Akha villages. In 2024, the Akha traditional Swing Festival is held for four days from August 17th to 20th in Ufudae Village, Monghsat Township, Shan State (Eastern). During the festival, both domestic and foreign guests from all over the area often visit. Anyone can join in this festival, offering a unique cultural experience for attendees.
