Celebrated for 8 days from the 8th Waxing to Full Moon Day of Tabaung
Moenyin, Kachin State (Northern Part of Myanmar)
Sandbanks mysteriously appear prior to the festival. One sandbank is said to be for humans while the others are for spirits.
This rare celebration is loved by locals and tourists. It is celebrated every March on the bank of the Inndawgyi lake. The pagoda is accessible during the festival when sandbanks seemingly emerge just for the celebration. The sandbanks serve as a pathway for pilgrims to walk on to reach the pagoda. There is a belief that one sandbank emerged for the humans and the others are especially for the spirits. Tourists and locals would visit Inndawgyi and cross over the sandbanks to participate in the festival. Situated at the river bank, the pagoda offers a breathtaking view that attracts thousands of tourists annually.
