Nay Pyi Taw, 26th April
As the tourism industry continues to grow, the emergence of new types of visitors will occur. One such group is – short stay visitors.
They can be broken down into 2 groups – day trippers, who come for the day and do not stay overnight and overnight short breaks who stay for one or two nights at their destination.
As an example, at the Tachileik Border Gateway from the 19th – 25th April 2019, there were 19,865 visitors from Thailand and 329 from third countries on day trips and overnight stays.
Most of the day trippers visited pagodas and monasteries as well as markets in Tachileik, whilst the overnight visitors visited similar sites -pagodas, gardens and waterfalls in the Tachileik area.
This market group is an example of the changing and growing interest in Myanmar from our Asean neighbours. They are also, from an economic point of view, contributing to the economic, the growth of tourism and its increasing and importance toour economy.
