The Ministry of Hotels and Tourism has launched its new website, www.tourism.gov.mm, which will offer videos, news photographs and interviews about Myanmar’s culture, traditions and tourist destinations, according to the website’s launch ceremony held in Nay Pyi Taw Today.
The aim of the new website is to inform the world about Myanmar’s real situation, to attract more tourists to the country, and to share ideal tourist destinations, festivals, cultures and traditions of Myanmar in accordance with the Digital Marketing Strategy of the 21st Century. Speaking at the website launching ceremony, Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism U Ohn Maung said Myanmar is ready for globetrotters to visit conveniently. As there remains many unrevealed tourist destinations, Myanmar has more potential than other countries in tourism industry. From natural wood lands to snow capped mountains, there are a lot of untouched natural environments. Moreover, Myanmar is one of the nations of lowest tourist crime record, the Union Minister said. With the implementation of Look East Policy, the number of tourist arrival to the country has increased by 37 per cent from China and 9 per cent from Thai- land this year compared with last year. At present, the Look West Policy should be revised to promote the image of Myanmar through advertising and broadcasting news, articles, videos and photos via website and social media. It is believed this will attract more tourists from Western European countries. The chief aim is to make the positive image of Myanmar widely known by the world, he added. The Union Minister also said to present about Myanmar at the world tourism expos, to provide access of direct flights to the popular destinations of Myanmar, to permit visa exemption and visa on arrival, to create new tourist destinations and to promote tourism industry in balance by working together. Inter-ministerial cooperation is very important to carry out tasks, and the aim will be affectively carried out if all related ministries work together, he added.
Afterwards, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism reported on the www.tourism.gov.mm website and future plans, after which a video was played on the popular destinations, cultures, traditions and cultural heritages in Myanmar. The Union Minister then posed for commemorative photo with the attendees. Also present at the event were Deputy Ministers U Aung Hla Tun and U Maung Maung Win, departmental heads, officials and invited guests.
