MoHT Union minister attends workshop on sustainable tourism development planning in Myanmar

Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr Htay Aung attended a workshop on sustainable tourism development planning in Myanmar which was held through video conferencing in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
At the workshop, the Union minister said that it is very important for long-term sustainability in tourism development in Myanmar, in addition to the emphasis on socio-economic development. The Ministry has been drawing up a roadmap to revive the industry which is affected by the COVID-19 outbreak since late 2019. It is necessary to plan a project in advance with the inclusion of not only the government and private organizations but also professionals and subject experts from universities and colleges in line with the changing circumstances, he said.
The draft project will be reviewed and coordinated with the local level for consultation, and then submitted to the National Tourism Central Committee for approval by the Union Government. He highlighted to include an analysis on each level of monitoring and implementation in the project plan, apart from the basic principles, visions, objectives, analysis, strategy, implementation, duration, and budget.
Deputy Director U Khaing Oo discussed the visions, strategies, short-term and long-term implementation plans, and Senior Consultant Officer of the Myanmar Tourism Federation Daw Kyi Kyi Aye explained the standardization of international organizations and researches.
At the workshop, the discussions were held on the development and systematic management of tourist destinations, promoting public-private partnerships, promoting tourism marketing, including digital systems, enhancing the country’s image and developing human resources and improving the quality of services. The participants of the workshops were awarded certificates of honour.
The workshop was attended by the director-general, deputy permanent secretary and department officials. The chairman of the Myanmar Tourism Federation and representatives of its affiliated associations, professors from the National Management Degree College and Mandalay University, and officials from Nay Pyi Taw Council, Region/State branches attended the workshop online. — MNA
