MoHT Union Minister receives Secretary-General of Myanmar Promotion Centre based in Chongqing, China

UNION Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr Htay Aung met the delegation led by the Secretary-General of the Myanmar Promotion Centre based in Chongqing, China at the Ministry’s Sapphire Hall on the evening of 27 December.
The meeting started with the Union Minister’s greeting the Secretary-General of the Myanmar Promotion Centre, in his discussion, said that the establishment of the Myanmar Promotion Centre was to make Myanmar widely known not only to the people of Chongqing but also to the people of western China and increase China-Myanmar cooperation.
He also said that China would like to extend an invitation to the Ministry and tourism associations, in order to be able to exhibit the China-Myanmar Investment Forum, the China-Myanmar Cultural Tourism Expo and the Lancang-Mekong Tourism Partnership City Week Programme are scheduled to be held in Chongqing.
The China-Myanmar Cultural Tourism Expo includes plans to directly promote Myanmar’s travel destinations online as well. It is also planned to hold this expo regularly every year.
He expressed his belief that Myanmar will be able to attract tourists from Chongqing and it will be more convenient if direct flights exist. As the promotion centre for Myanmar, he said, China would like to cooperate with the ministry on matters related to the promotion of China-Myanmar tourism.
The Union minister responded that Myanmar and the People’s Republic of China
are cooperating in various sectors, including tourism. He said preparations are being made, starting from the language, to facilitate the visit of Chinese tourists. The ministry will cooperate with related ministries and tourism associations to participate in the upcoming events in Chongqing as well.
The Union minister expressed his gratitude to the secretary-general for organizing 50 tourism booths for Myanmar, as well as for free travel and accommodation. He also suggested that the secretary-general should visit other destinations during his visit to Myanmar. — MNA/CT
