Myanmar hosts CLMV, ACMECS tourism meetings to boost regional cooperation

MYANMAR is hosting the seventh CLMV (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam) Tourism Ministers’ and Senior Officials’ Meeting, along with the sixth ACMECS (Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy) Tourism Ministers’ and Senior Officials’ Meeting. These biennial events, held on a rotational basis, are taking place in person at the Sedona Hotel, Yangon, from 27 to 29 November. The opening ceremony was attended by Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr Thet Thet Khaing, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, government ministers, senior tourism officials, and representatives from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam. Also present were the Chairman of the Myanmar Tourism Federation, officials from sister associations, and guests. In her address, the Union Minister emphasized the need to accelerate regional tourism development through enhanced cooperation between governments and the private sector. She highlighted the importance of adopting modern technologies to elevate regional tourism to a global level and called for initiatives such as visa liberalization, connectivity programmes, sister city partnerships, and multi-country tours to attract international visitors. Following the opening ceremony, the Union Minister and the Yangon Region Chief Minister took commemorative photographs with leaders and delegates from member countries. The seventh CLMV Tourism Senior Officials’ Meeting, chaired by U Maung Maung Kyaw, Director-General of the Department of Hotels and Tourism, reviewed ongoing regional tourism promotion activities and discussed future collaboration under the CLMV Regional Tourism Cooperation Action Plan 2023–2025. The Union minister later visited the Myanmar-Vietnam Expo 2024 at the Yangon Convention Centre in the Inya Lake Hotel complex. She toured booths showcasing Vietnam-based businesses, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), clothing and food products, electrical appliances, airlines, and hotel and tourism associations. In the evening, Myanmar hosted a dinner for delegates from the member countries.
