Taisun Village is 4 miles away from Falam town, surrounded by three villages, and Manipur River flows from north to east of the village. The village was founded in 15th Century and is famous for Chin tribal chief Tson Bik a.k.a. Bo Son Pek, who fought against the invasion of the British till 1892. During 1856-1892, led by Tson Bik, Taisun was the largest and most powerful village in Chin Hills with 500 households. Taisun was the last defense of the British invasion in Chin Hills.
Chin Heritage Village, Taisun, is a Community-based tourism village, the only place where one can see Chin Traditional Houses in the 21st Century. This CBT is an award-winning product of Product and Package Innovation Competition and was implemented by The Backyard Travels and Tours in cooperation with UKaid in 2017. This tour aims to support the local people by supporting a community-based tourism.
Visitors will experience and immense in the culture, and ways of life of Chin people with long-standing traditions along the Chin Hills Expedition during the British invasion.
The village entrance welcomes you with a beautiful scenic view at Hmual (a traditional balcony-like view point) from where you can look over the entire village.You can walk around the village where you will see typical Chin traditional houses with skulls of animals that are hung on the wall. There will be skulls of mithons, bears, wild boars, sambhurs, muntjacs, monkeys and hornbill beaks decorating the walls. They are silent witness to the prowess of the hunter, a trophy board to be proud of.Have lunch at the host family where you will be served with Chin traditional foods of hygienic and organic vegetables which are local products.

You can trek to the villages, and observe their ways of life. You will witness beautiful scenic views along the way. You will walk past a local farm, a vineyard, a viewpoint overlooking the Manipur River, a mithun (nwa-note) farm, and an old village fort. You will have lunch at Congthe village and trek up to Falam Town and visit around the town.
With the local guide, you can have a picnic at Manipur River below the village. After breakfast, you will go down to the river. Lunch will be packed, and will have an experience of traditional fish catching. The river has a wooden suspension bridge named Suangpi that was used by nearby villages to commute to Falam town. You can swim at the river. The river site has the remnant of destroyed Manipur Bridge built by the British during 1925-26. Trek back to the village, dine and overnight at a local house.
Access Route
Currently, the nearest airport from Taisun is Kalay Airport in Kalay Town, Sagaing Region. Air KBZ and Myanmar National Airlines operate daily from Yangon and Mandalay to Kalay Airport. There are express buses from Yangon, Mandalay to Hakha and Kalay. From Kalay to Taisun, you can hire car or take local bus that operates daily to Falam Town. There is public transportation from Hakha to Falam.
With the official opening of Surbung Airport in Falam in 2020, Taisun CBT will accessible directly by flight from Yangon and Mandalay in the near future.
Best Season to Visit
It is best to visit in winter between October and April.
