Ethnic food identification and cooking competition held

NayPyiTaw, 4th June During the recently very successful Basic Hospitality Training Course, in Naung Cho Shan State, a new and exciting concept was introduced to great acclaim – an ethnic food identification and cooking competition,which involved Trainees from the Food and Beverage Production Course. The aim of the competition was to identifying ethnic food and suggest ways of introducing these various foods to the travellers. Also identified, was the concept that cooking could bea great way to introduce new tourismproduct ideas to the destination. At the same time, promoting and preserving ethnic food and customs. The competition wasjointly organized by Directorate of Hotels and Tourism (Lashio Branch) and the Hoteliers Association (Northern Shan State Zone), has been conducting at Naung as part of the Basic Hospitality Course. was held at KyaukTaw Village, NaungCho Township on 30th May 2019. Five teams where formed and consisted of Naung Cho Township Team, Myanmar Women’s Affairs Team, BantBaweKyin Village Team, NaungChoGyi Village Team and KyaukTaw Village Team, all participated in the competition. The special judges for the day were U HtinAungNaing, Director of the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism (Taunggyi Branch), Deputy Director U Thet Linn and Staff Officer Daw San SanMyintfrom the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism (Lashio Branch), U Myo Min Zaw, Chairman of Myanmar Hoteliers Association (Southern Shan State Zone), U Than Lwin, Administrator of Kalaw Township, DawMyoMyoHtet, Chairman of Myanmar Restaurants Association (Southern Shan State Zone) and U KyawLwinOo, ASEAN National Trainer. The outstanding winner was the team from BantBaweKyin Village Team, Myanmar Women’s Affairs Team won second prize and KyaukTaw Village Team won third prize respectively. The judges praised the effort and creativity of all the teams and were very pleased to being part of the development of a new product idea for the local tourism market.
